Find your flasher and dig out your jigs, the Beaverton Legion Ice Fishing Derby and Fish Fry is set for next month.
Hosted by the Beaverton Legion, the Ice Fishing Derby and Fish Fry returns Feb. 17, the Saturday of the Family Day weekend.
From 7 a.m. until 5 p.m., anglers of all experience levels are invited to drop their lines in Lake Simcoe. After a full day of fishing, participants can make their way to the Legion for the fish fry dinner, starting at 6 p.m..
With respect to the derby, the Legion reminds participants:
- Fish must be caught in Lake Simcoe on the day of the event;
- Fish must be weighed in officially to qualify (at Floyd Hales Fish Huts in Beaverton or Dave’s Fish Huts on Virginia Beach);
- Catch limits must be respected;
- Verify ice and weather conditions before you going out on the lake.
Tickets cost $20 per person and include the derby as well as the dinner. Funds raised from these events support veterans programs and youth sports activities in the community. Tickets are available at the Beaverton Legion as well as sponsor locations, listed here.
