More than $1,900 in donations resulted in 15 shopping carts full of items for the Brock Community Food Bank following an online drive by a pair of local groups.
Adeline Khoo Pettit, PeggyLee McLean and Colin Theodoru – the administrators of Facebook pages Brock Ultimate Deals and Beaverton Treasure Finds – recently went on a shopping spree that resulted in an eight-foot long receipt.
While they were still counting up the items purchased Sunday (Dec. 10) morning, the trio said they’re confident that last year’s total of 1,092 will be bested. There’s even some money left over to make a cash donation to the food bank
“Once we filled carts full of essentials, we had some extra cash so we filled more carts with food, juices, a few luxury items that can be enjoyed over Christmas and New Year. We stocked up for our community – breakfast, lunch, dinner, desserts,” Petit said in a social media post later that day.
The group even picked up a few treats for household pets.
“We also did not forget families with fur babies, they were added to the list of things we bought,” she continued.
The money was raised by members through online auctions, items donations and cash donations.
