A new teacher at Sunderland Public School received a heartwarming holiday message from one of her students.
Kirsty Kernohan, who teaches a Grade 3/4 class at the school, recently shared the note on social media.
“I love spending each day with you. Being in this class makes me feel safe, like I’m at home. I can’t wait each morning to come see you,” the student wrote.
In an interview, Kernohan acknowledged that the letter made her day and offered reassurance that she’s on the right path as an educator.
“Every December, students at Sunderland Public School send letters to each other, teachers and staff. It’s been heartwarming to see the spirit and community that this creates in the school. As a first-year teacher, I know the importance of creating a safe and inclusive space for our students. I want the students to feel happy and to enjoy learning,” she said.
“My goal is to create a space where students embrace a growth mindset and come to school eager to learn every day. Receiving this letter showed me that the effort put into this is making a difference in the students’ day.”
