An auxiliary officer with more than 30 years of service to the community was given a heartfelt sendoff following the Sunderland Santa Claus parade Saturday (Dec. 9) night.

“Thank you, Bernie, for your dedication to DRPS,” reads the post.

“Bernie, thank you for your exceptional unwavering service to our community for over three decades. You’re the best, my friend,” added Deputy Chief Chris Fernandes.

Mayor John Grant shared a photo of his own, congratulating Sgt. Kirck.

“On behalf of the Township of Brock, I would like to thank Sergeant Bernie Kirck for his 34 years of service on the police force. Bernie chose Sunderland as his last official parade as it was also his first when he joined the Durham Regional Police Service. Congratulations on your retirement, Bernie, and thank you for your years of service.”
