Trial of Beaverton man accused of sexually assaulting children set for next week

The trial of Beaverton man accused of sexually assaulting three children is set to get underway Monday (Dec. 11).

Dennis Coles was arrested and charged in the summer of 2016 for eight offenses involving children. His trial is slated to run four days in Oshawa court.

Coles was initially charged with sexual assault, invitation to sexual touching and sexual interference in July of 2016 following allegations from a then five-year-old girl.

Two additional victims came forward shortly thereafter and Coles was charged with five other offences during a court appearance in August of 2016.

According to court documents, the initial set of charges involve incidents that allegedly occurred between September 2014 and July of 2015, while the second is related to allegations dating from January 2012 to the end of December 2014.

Coles was taken into custody by the Durham Regional Police at the end of September for allegedly failing to comply with bail conditions.

He pleaded guilty to a breach charge in Oshawa court on Nov. 14 and was sentenced to probation in addition to time served. He was released pending next week’s trial.
