Ramara resident charged with assault

A Ramara Township resident, reportedly an officer with the Rama Police Service, has been charged with assault.

In mid October, according to police, Chief John Domm of the Rama Police Service requested that the OPP investigate a matter that occurred on Sept. 20.

As a result of an investigation by the Professional Standards Bureau, 30-year-old Evan Gorman of Ramara Township has been charged with assault. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on Jan. 16.

According to CTV News, Gorman remains on active duty as a constable.

The Professional Standards Bureau is responsible for co-ordinating and responding to complaints made directly to the Office of the Independent Police Review Director.  They also conduct independent investigations.

Furthermore, professional standards employees also work directly with the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) and are mandated to conduct investigations related to any Police Services Act (section 113) Chapter 11 investigations.
