Residents in Brock Township and across Durham Region are being asked to play Secret Santa for a Senior.
The Durham Elder Abuse Network (DEAN) has issued a call to area residents and businesses to sponsor gift packages – including a personal needs item (such as shampoo, conditioner or lotion), a comfort item (a pillow, pajamas or winter clothing) and an interest item (a book, magazine or treat) — for elderly residents this holiday season.
Those looking to take part this year will receive gift tags featuring general items from a senior’s wish list.
In 2016, the organization, with the support of countless community partners, collected more than 350 gifts that were distributed by volunteers across the region to help spread a bit of holiday cheer.
“More than 75 gifts were delivered to seniors in the township last year,” said Jennifer Josephson, a seniors and community health worker with the Brock Community Health Centre and chair of the Durham Elder Abuse Network.
In addition to sponsorships, financial contributions are also welcomed. Those making a donation of $25 or more will receive a charitable tax receipt.
