Investigating collisions will now be easier for Durham Regional Police as they add an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle to their inventory of equipment.

The UAV, commonly referred to as a drone, will be used by the Traffic Services Unit to help officers investigating collisions in Durham. Using software and on-board cameras, the drone can take images of a scene and generate detailed maps for analysis.

Police say the new tool will not only help further investigations, but it will reduce the length of some road closures.
