Region of Durham not ready for legal marijuana

The Region of Durham has asked upper-level governments to delay the legalization of marijuana.

At the Sept. 13 council meeting, the Region adopted the following motion:

“That Regional Chair (Roger) Anderson prepare a letter on behalf of Regional Council to the Federal and Provincial Governments requesting to delay the implementation of the sale of marijuana until Durham Police and area municipalities have an opportunity to review the impact the legislation will have on their processes.”

The motion was included as correspondence to Brock Township council in the Oct. 2 agenda package.
