Jamie Schmale, Member of Parliament for Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock, has been named the Deputy Shadow Minister for Natural Resources.
With the news of his assignment, announced Tuesday (Sept. 5), came confirmation that Brock’s MP will no longer sit as a member on the Standing Committee of Procedure and House Affairs as his new duties require him on the Natural Resources Committee.
“I’m grateful to be given the chance to advocate on such an important file for this country,’’ says Schmale. “I will use this opportunity to be a principled voice for Canadians who value safe and environmentally sustainable resource development.”
In his new role, Schmale will be working with colleagues Shannon Stubbs, MP for Lakeland, who was appointed Shadow Minister for the same portfolio, and Brad Trost, MP for Saskatoon-University.
“Together, we will be holding this government to account, ensuring economic growth and prosperity, while improving environmental outcomes for all Canadians,” says Schmale.
The Standing Committee on Natural Resources studies and reports on all matters relating to the mandate, management and operation of Natural Resources Canada and selected federal departments and agencies, included among others, the Atomic Energy of Canada, Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, National Energy Board, and Sustainable Development Technology Canada.
