Reconstruction of Regional Road 12 starts today (Aug. 28)

The 12th Concession Road, Regional Road 12, is expected to be closed for six weeks, starting today (Aug. 28), for a road reconstruction project.

Durham Region’s contractor, Brennan Paving & Construction Ltd., is starting reconstruction of the road, from 200 metres east of Brock Road to 600 metres east of Side Road 17. Work starts Monday (Aug. 28) and is expected to be complete by Nov. 30. The Region notes unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.

The proposed work will consist of culvert replacements, ditching, geogrid reinforced road-base, asphalt removal and replacement, and new pavement markings.

The road will be closed for the six weeks to facilitate road excavation and geogrid reinforced road-base construction, while providing a safe work zone for construction workers. Access will be maintained for emergency services and local residents whenever possible within the limits of the closure, but delays should be expected.

Lane restrictions will be in effect throughout the project.

According to a release, the Region realizes that the construction work will be disruptive and will complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible. Drivers are asked to exercise additional caution for pedestrian, cyclist and construction worker safety. The dates shown are tentative and may change based on the contractor’s schedule.
