Residents invited to participate in Affordable and Seniors’ Housing survey

Residents of Durham Region are invited to have their say about affordable and seniors’ housing.

The Affordable and Seniors’ Housing Task Force, an ad hoc committee of Regional council, is working to identify strategies that support the creation and maintenance of affordable and seniors housing. The intention is for the strategies to be used to inform the 2017 Social Housing Servicing and Financing Study.

As part of their efforts, the task force has launched a survey seeking input from Durham Region residents.

After answering a few demographical questions, participants are asked what they think the Region needs to do to ensure rent is affordable for everyone, how the Region can support more housing choices for seniors and what they think the Region must do to ensure all of its communities remain strong and vibrant. Other questions revolve around what respondents consider the biggest obstacle with respect to increasing the supply of affordable housing and increasing the range of housing choices for seniors.

The public is also invited to submit recommendations to the Task Force.

Interested residents, developers, landlords and property managers can complete the survey online any time before August 1. The feedback provided will be considered in the report the Task Force presents to council this fall.
