walking trailLocal politicians are gathering this weekend to mark the completion of the Sunderland Lions Club’s walking trail at the fairgrounds.

Members of township council, along with MP Jamie Schmale and MPP Laurie Scott, will host an inauguration ceremony at 11 a.m. this Saturday (June 10).

The trail, which was paved last fall, runs roughly one kilometre around the fairgrounds.

“People of all ages and abilities can enjoy walking, running, or jogging along this safe and accessible trail. Everyone from senior citizens, to moms and dads with strollers, to dog walkers to pole walkers, and even roller skaters, have been seen enjoying the trail,” reads a press release from the Township.

“The Sunderland Lions Club organized community work days to complete sodding and tree planting alongside the trail, with volunteers of all ages pitching in.”

In addition to a massive fundraising effort by the club, the Ontario Trillium Foundation provided a $90,000 grant for the project, while the Township of Brock made an in-kind contribution.
